Dear Mr. President,
We at the Congregation of Vietnamese
Buddhists in the United States are extremely shocked by the attacks of Tuesday, September
11 in New York and Washington DC. The cruelty and premeditation of the acts were such that
no man on earth would not feel ashamed of the whole of humankind.
Buddhism is a religion of tolerance and
compassion. We pray therefore thet the perpetrators shall realized the gigantic harm done
and feel remorse and shall repent. I am certain that this tragedy unites all Americans in
a spirit of forgiveness, and of brotherly cooperation to keep our heads high in time of
calamity, and to share in the task of healing the wounds.
In this time of mourning for all
Americans, we would like to share in the pain with the victims and their loved ones. We
pray the almighty to bestow upon those who have died His benediction and His Blessings for
another life of felicity.
As full-fledged Americans, the Vietnamese
Americans pledge to do our best in helping one another overcome this tragedy without fear,
without grudge, but with patriotism, caring, and courage.
Respecfully yours,
- Thích Mãn Giác, PhD.
- President.
